Tree removal is our specialty
Tree removal is the heart of what we do. It's roughly 75% of our work, and it's the service we get called for most. We're a local, family-owned crew working out of Lapeer County and across the surrounding Genesee, St. Clair, Oakland, and Macomb County areas. Whether you have one dead ash that needs to come down, a giant maple leaning over the garage, or a row of old trees along a fence line that have to go before the new fence goes in — we do it safely, cleanly, and at a fair price.
Most of the trees we remove are not standing in the middle of an open field. They're crammed against houses, hanging over driveways, growing through fences, or pinned between outbuildings and power lines. Those are the jobs that scare other contractors off, and they're the ones we handle every week. We bring a lift to most jobs that need height, and our crew works with ropes and rigging to bring tree sections down in controlled pieces — never dropped freely where they could hit something.
Every removal starts with a free, on-site estimate. Tom comes out, walks the property with you, looks at the tree from every angle, and writes you a quote on the spot. He'll tell you exactly what we're going to do and how. If we think the tree can be saved with a heavy prune instead of a removal, we'll tell you that too. We'd rather earn a customer for life than push a job that doesn't need to happen.
Difficult removals near homes, structures & power lines
The hardest part of tree removal isn't getting the tree down. It's getting it down without touching anything that isn't supposed to be touched. A tree against your house, hanging over your roof, growing through your fence, or sitting under a service drop has to come apart in pieces, with each piece controlled by ropes and our lift operator until it's safely on the ground. That's how we protect your home, your fence, your shed, your driveway, and the rest of your yard.
We routinely work close to homes and structures, near fences and pools, and around power service lines. We coordinate with the utility when a removal involves the high-voltage primary lines, and we never work on energized lines — that part is always the utility's responsibility. Once the lines are safe, we handle the tree.
We also handle storm-damaged trees that are partially down, hung up in other trees, or split at the trunk. Those are some of the most dangerous jobs in our trade — every cut releases stored energy in unpredictable ways — and they should never be tackled by a homeowner with a chainsaw. If you have one, leave the area, keep kids and pets away, and call us. For active emergencies, see our 24/7 emergency tree service page.
Why insurance matters — and why it should matter to you
Tree work is one of the most dangerous trades there is. A single mistake can put a 2,000-pound limb through your roof, a chainsaw into a worker, or a dropped tree across your neighbor's car. That's why insurance isn't optional — and it's why hiring an uninsured tree crew is one of the riskiest things a homeowner can do. If something goes wrong on your property and the company doing the work isn't insured, your homeowners insurance may deny the claim. You could be left paying out of pocket for damage that should have been covered, and in some cases you can be held liable if a worker is hurt on your property.
We carry full general liability and workers' compensation insurance, and we're happy to provide a current Certificate of Insurance before any work starts. Just ask. Many of our customers do, and we never blink at the request — it's exactly the right question to ask any tree company before letting them on your property.
If a quote from another company seems suspiciously low, the most common reason is they're not carrying real insurance. The savings disappear the first time something goes wrong. We'll always quote a fair, competitive price — and we'll always show you the paperwork to back up the work.
Cleanup, chipping, hauling, and firewood
A finished removal isn't just about the tree being down. It's about your yard looking like we were never there — except, of course, the tree is gone. Every removal we do includes full cleanup. Branches go through the chipper or onto the truck. The trunk is cut up and hauled, or cut into firewood lengths and stacked for you if you want it. The work area is raked clean before we leave.
If you want the wood for firewood, just say so during the estimate and we'll cut everything to length — usually 16 inches — and stack it where you want it. If you don't want the wood, we'll haul it. If you want the chips for mulch, we'll dump them where you want them. If you don't, they go with us. Your call. The point is that you don't have to do anything after we leave.
We work across Lapeer, Genesee, St. Clair, Oakland, and Macomb Counties and surrounding areas. If you're not sure if you're in our service area, just call — we travel for the right jobs.
Warning Signs
When to call us right away.
Trees rarely fall without warning. They almost always tell you something is wrong months — sometimes years — before they come down. If you see any of the signs below, it's worth getting a free assessment before the next big windstorm rolls through.
- Large dead branches in the upper canopy, or branches that have lost bark and look gray.
- A visible lean that's gotten worse, especially after a recent storm or when the ground was saturated.
- Mushrooms, conks, or fungus growing at the base of the trunk — a strong sign of internal root rot.
- Cracks running vertically up the trunk, or a hollow sound when you tap the wood.
- Roots that are lifted, exposed, or breaking through the soil on one side.
- Branches hanging over your roof, deck, vehicles, or play areas — even if the tree itself looks healthy.
- An ash tree with thinning canopy, woodpecker damage, or D-shaped exit holes (emerald ash borer).
Pricing
What affects the price.
Tree removal pricing can vary widely depending on the size of the tree, number of trees, access, difficulty level, cleanup needs, proximity to structures or power lines, and whether you want the wood hauled, stacked, chipped, or left on site. Some jobs may be a few hundred dollars, while larger or more complex removals can run into the thousands. The only accurate way to price the job is with an on-site estimate.
Size & height
A 30-foot tree in the front yard is a very different job than an 80-foot oak. Height drives time, gear, and crew size.
Number of trees
Multiple trees on the same trip are usually cheaper per tree than a single one-off removal.
Access
Can we get a truck, chipper, and lift to the tree? Tight backyards, fences, and gates add labor to every load.
Proximity to structures
A tree in an open field can be felled in one piece. A tree over a house has to be roped down section by section.
Power lines
If lines are involved, we coordinate with the utility before we start. We never work on energized lines.
Cleanup choices
Haul everything? Cut the trunk into firewood lengths and stack it? Chip the brush? Each option changes the final price.
FAQs
Questions we hear a lot.
- How much does it cost to remove a tree? +
- Pricing varies a lot. Some jobs are a few hundred dollars, others run into the thousands. Size, access, proximity to structures, and cleanup all affect the price. The only accurate way to quote a removal is with a free on-site estimate — we come out, look at the tree, and give you a written number on the spot.
- Are you insured if something goes wrong? +
- Yes — fully insured for general liability and workers' compensation. We can provide a current Certificate of Insurance before any work begins. Always ask any tree company for proof of insurance before letting them on your property. If they're uninsured and something goes wrong, your homeowners policy may not cover the damage.
- What do you do with the wood? +
- Your choice. We can haul everything, cut the trunk into firewood lengths and stack it for you, or leave the chips as mulch. Whatever you want, just tell us during the estimate.
- How do you remove trees in tight spots near homes or fences? +
- We use lift access along with ropes and rigging. Sections come down in controlled pieces, lowered to a small drop zone instead of being dropped freely. It takes longer than felling a tree whole, but it's the only way to do it without damaging what's underneath.
- How long does a tree removal take? +
- Most single-tree removals are done in a few hours. Difficult removals or multi-tree projects can take a full day or more. We give you a realistic timeline up front.
- Do you work on power lines? +
- No. We don't touch energized lines — that's always the utility's job. Once they de-energize the line, we handle the tree.
